The Alberta Fullbore Rifle Association, locally known as Fullbore, is a not for profit association run by volunteer members with a shooting range located just west of Calgary, Alberta. The club’s mission is to promote long distance shooting sports within the Province of Alberta, Canada. Fullbore is a member of the Alberta Provincial Rifle Association (APRA) and has been in existence since 1902.
The property is located about a 30 minute drive west of Calgary and consists of two distinct ranges. The first range is our 50m range which is open all year round. On this range shooters are permitted to shoot handguns of any caliber, rimfire rifles, carbines using pistol calibers, and shotguns fired in the horizontal position.
The second range, the long distance range, is open from May to November and accommodates rifles of any caliber up to .338 Lapua. This range has 12 individual targets located at the far end of the range. Each target frame is equipped with brackets specifically designed for the ShotMarker electronic targeting system. You can opt to use paper targets alone, or in combination with a club provided ShotMarker system. There are shooting positions located at 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800 and 900m which accommodate shooters wanting to shoot prone (lying down) or sitting using benchrest style tables.
WHAT DO I NEED TO GET STARTED?F-Class shooting is a competitive long-range rifle discipline that tests precision and marksmanship at distances typically ranging from 300 to 900 meters. To get started, you’ll need the right equipment and skills: 1. **Rifle and Optics**: An accurate rifle is essential. The most common calibers are .308, .223, 6mm, 284 win, and 6.5 Creedmoor, but there are many more. Your scope needs to have enough elevation to get to 900 m, which means that you will need to be able to add at least 25 MOA from a 300 m setting. Consult with your retailer for an appropriate rail; usually 20 to 25 MOA depending on your caliber and scope. A quality scope with a very minimum of 24x magnification and fine adjustments for windage and elevation is crucial for precision; 2. **Ammunition**: Factory match-grade or handloaded ammunition with consistent performance is required to achieve tight groups at long distances; 3. **Rest Equipment**: A stable front rest or bipod and a rear rest help maintain consistent positioning during shooting; 4. **Range Access**: Practice is key. Attend our practice sessions once or twice before shooting your first match to ensure everything is working properly. Experienced shooters will be there to offer you advice and what to do next; 5. **Skill Development**: Learn to read wind, understand ballistics, and practice proper shooting fundamentals. 6. **Attend our "Introduction to Long Distance Shooting" workshop (on the events page). For people new to long range shooting, we recommend you attend a few practice sessions then a few matches before considering upgrading your equipment. |
PRACTICE MAKES PERFECTFor members that want to practice or test out handloads, we have supervised practice sessions on the long range. This typically happens on weekends when matches are not being held. You can simply show up and leave when you want, and for newer shooters is an excellent time to get assistance zeroing your scope, get reloading advice and ask questions. |
